A Nautical Nursery With Designer, Lauren McKay

"This ottoman was the perfect finishing touch for my son's room! I used a COM Belgian linen fabric in a faux bois pattern by Kravet called Hallerbos. It is especially meaningful because my husband and I traveled to Belgium and went to the Hallerbos (Bluebell) festival last year. The carved animal feet bring a playful element to the room."

Our Paloma Footstool features beautiful hand-carved feet by our in-house artisans. Learn more about COM >

Designer Spotlight

Meet Lauren McKay, an interior designer based in Raleigh, NC who has been designing residential and commercial spaces in the Triangle for more than 13 years. Lauren’s approach to design focuses on helping clients design spaces that foster joy, while expressing the personality of their family. As a mother of three young children, Lauren understands how important it is to have a home that is practical and comfortable. With that said, she's a firm believer in the fact that it's ok to take design risks! Scroll below to see how Lauren incorporated our playful Paloma Footstool into her son’s sweet nursery. We're loving all the collected tchotchkes and of course all the beautiful blues!

Lauren's Design Tip

"Pick the wall color LAST!  There are thousands of paint colors to choose from and you want to be sure it will coordinate with the furniture and fabrics used in the space so I always recommend figuring out the other elements first so that you can make an informed decision.  This also ensures the paint color will look PERFECT with everything else you bring in!"

Lauren's Favorite Interior Designers

Barrie Benson for her genius use of color, Charlotte Lucas for her wonderful fabrics and wallpapers, Erin Gates for her relatability, timelessness, and well thought out interiors!
