More Than Moodboards: A Cozy Cottage Designed for Real Life

This project was a perfect example of what we mean when we say our free interior design services offer more than just moodboards.

With Hannah’s Pinterest board pulled up and her lifestyle top of mind, our lead interior designer, Robin, began scheming, thinking through how the rooms would flow, how the furniture would live together, and how the space would feel not just on move-in day, but years from now. Hannah’s home is the kind of place you instantly want to linger in. Cozy. Lived-in. A place made for memories. And it needed to work hard, too.

For the living room, we designed two custom Aurora Ruffle Chairs in a performance pinstripe clay fabric. Soft, tailored, and quietly sophisticated, the fabric almost reads as a neutral, adding depth without overpowering the room. To balance them, we layered in oversized Royal Flush Swivels upholstered in the coziest tapestry-inspired fabric, finished with rich chocolate brown contrast piping. The result? Seating that feels collected, comfortable, and intentional, pieces you can curl up in, spin toward a conversation, or sink into after a long day.

This is the heart of our one-on-one e-design services. From fabric selection and custom furnishings to thoughtful layouts and bespoke floorplans, our designers are there to guide, refine, and elevate, all online, but deeply personal. It’s about listening closely, understanding how you live, and creating rooms that support it all.

Hannah’s home now tells a story. Of a family growing into a new space. Of afternoons by the fire, toys tucked under chairs, the dog curled up nearby. Of a cottage designed not just to look beautiful, but to be lived in fully.

When Hannah Stokes first inquired, she was on the cusp of a new chapter. A move scheduled for July, a Cape Cod–style cottage filled with charm, and a vision forming for the spaces where real life would unfold, the formal living room and a cozy nook just off the kitchen, right in front of the fireplace. She knew she wanted Society Social to be part of the story, especially our lounge chairs, and she came to us with inspiration in hand.

Hannah had a strong sense of her personal style. She knew what she loved, what she didn’t, and the feeling she wanted her home to evoke, warm, layered, and inviting. But like so many clients, translating inspiration into a functional layout (and confidently mixing patterns) felt overwhelming. That’s where our design process really shines.

With a toddler and a dog in the mix, performance fabrics weren’t optional, they were essential. Hannah shared that her existing sofa wasn’t performance and had been a constant headache, so for her custom chairs, durability was a must. But practicality never meant compromising beauty.

One of our favorite moments in the design process came when Robin gently nudged Hannah outside her comfort zone. “I never choose oranges,” she admitted. But as they walked through the palette together, taking into account her butter yellow kitchen and the desire for a home that felt just as beautiful in fall and winter as it does in spring, she trusted the vision.

That subtle warmth helped make the space feel season-less, grounded, and enduring rather than overly light or fleeting.

And that’s always the goal. Because with us, it’s never just about the furniture, it’s about helping you design a home that feels like you.
